Filming has been completed on THE FIRST KANGAROOS, the first Australian/UK co-production to be made under the
arrangement signed by the Australian Film Commission and Channel 4 (UK) in October last year.
The film was shot in Australia and England and stars Dennis Waterman, Chris Haywood, Dominic Sweeney, Philip Quast, Tony Martin and Clarissa Kaye-Mason. It tells the story of the first Australian Rugby League tour of England in 1907 and is co-produced by Channel 4 and Roadshow Coote and Carroll.
The tele movie begins in 1907 when Rugby union was the only code of football played in Australia. A dispute over compensation for an injured player leads sports store salesman and entrepreneur J.J. Giltinan (played by Chris Haywood) to form a breakaway code with professional aspirations.
THE FIRST KANGAROOS will be shown on Australian television in September.
